One Response to The Plot Against the NHS: this helps makes some sense of apparent stupidity
The transcript makes the book sound very much like “NHS PLC” by Allyson Pollock, one of the single most depressing reads of my life so far. You can’t un-mortgage your future once you’ve blown the cash, so despite whatever votes of no confidence and resistance the superficial aspects of these plans see from nurses or the RCGP, we’re only ever going to get closer to the kitemark model. I’m still a medical student with some way to go; this wasn’t what I thought I was signing up for, and quite honestly it makes me want to emigrate immediately upon qualifying to one of the few places left where healthcare is still state-funded. If I don’t then I know it’s only a matter of years before I have to deny even basic care owing to the inability of someone to pay, because once companies are delivering it all they’ll have the power to push for that.
